About ISESHIMA

ISESHIMA is a region facing the Pacific Ocean in Mie Prefecture, in the central region of Japan.

It is a fascinating place where Japanese history and tradition come to life, and also famous as the venue for the G7 ISESHIMA Summit (Group of Seven), an important event that brought together world leaders in 2016 to discuss international issues.

ISESHIMA is also a popular tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors, and is a place where you can experience traditional Japanese culture and history, with Ise Jingu Shrine at its heart.

Ise Jingu Shrine enshrines Amaterasu Oomikami, the sun goddess who appears in Japanese mythology, and is considered to be one of the most important shrines in Japan. It is a spiritual place where you can experience spirituality as the center of Japanese faith.

In addition to Ise Jingu Shrine, ISESHIMA National Park and Ise Bay are also home to a wealth of nature, making it a famous tourist destination known for its scenic beauty.

In particular, ISESHIMA National Park is famous for its beautiful coastline, where there are many spots where you can enjoy swimming and marine sports in the summer.

The beautiful sea of ISESHIMA is not only a place for leisure, but the pearls that grow in the clear waters are of extremely high quality, and the beautiful luster and glossy coloration that are carefully cultivated by skilled craftsmen continue to captivate people from all over the world. The abundance of the Ise-Shima sea is also famous for the wealth of marine products it yields, and the fishing in which women called “AMA (Sea Women)” dive into the sea to harvest abalone, sea urchin, and other seafood is popular with tourists as part of Japanese culture and customs. You can also experience the local traditions.

ISESHIMA is also home to lush forests, and is a popular spot where you can enjoy the beautiful seasonal scenery and great outdoors, such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.

About Wagashi, souvenirs, and restaurant

Wagashi (Japanese sweets) are traditional Japanese sweets, characterized by their beautiful appearance and delicate flavor.

In Japan, Wagashi have a history of several hundred years, and we enjoy various types of Wagashi depending on the season and the event. By making the most of the seasonal bounty, you can also experience the changing of the seasons through Wagashi in spring, summer, autumn and winter.

The making of Wagashi requires the meticulous skills of artisans, and it is a traditional Japanese culture that symbolizes the culture and spirit of traditional Japanese artisans.

Iwatoya values the culture of Wagashi and makes Wagashi that is loved by everyone.

Iwato Mochi

This is rice cake covered with Kinako (sweetened soybean flour), having Koshian (bean paste) filling inside, produced with care by Iwatoya in reference to the Japanese myth “Iwato Kagura”.

Both the Kinako and the Anko bean paste are high in nutritional value, and you can enjoy the smooth, moist, and pleasantly sweet taste of the Koshian and the fragrant flavor of the Kinako.

Ginger Candy

A confection made by boiling down a mixture of sugar and ginger juice. This is a confectionery that has long been loved as a souvenir from Ise Jingu, modeled on the talisman (sword purification) of Ise Jingu. In addition to these, we also have Japanese sweets, such as Warabi Mochi made with bracken starch and seasonal ingredients.

In addition to Wagashi, we also have a wide selection of souvenirs from ISESHIMA in Mie Prefecture and local character goods which are popular overseas.

In addition, there are also tenants in Iwatoya store that specialize in Matsusaka beef, Ise tea, Akoya pearl accessories, etc., and we have a wide range of products that can be used not only as souvenirs from ISESHIMA in Mie Prefecture, but also as gifts for your loved ones.

At the Sangutei Isuzu Shokudo Restaurant, which is located in the same building, you can enjoy delicious, fresh local cuisine from ISESHIMA, such as Ise Udon Noodle and Tekone Sushi, as well as traditional dishes made using local ingredients such as Matsusaka beef and Japanese lobster .
